25. YOUNG THE GIANT (self-titled)
Another debut album, this from 2010, is from the Southern California indie/alt-rock outfit, Young the Giant. With the members of the band coming from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds, this record was bound to be eclectic. Lead singer Sameer Gadhia’s evocative vocals (which he delivers using two mics when performing live) blend well with the rest of the band’s musical chops. The songs have layers upon layers of sound, so listening to this album with headphones will enhance that effect. The star tracks include ‘Apartment,’ ‘Cough Syrup’ and crowd pleaser ‘My Body.’ But don’t neglect the other songs, especially ‘God Made Man’ and album closer ‘Guns Out.’
