148. TENDER by Allison Lorenzen
This just released 2021 record by Denver, Colorado-based Allison Lorenzen has been playing on repeat ever since I came across it a few days ago. It’s her voice that first grabbed my attention and piqued my interest - it has been variably described as choir-like, ethereal and ephemeral. Well, all those adjectives apply, and more. In a way, she reminds me a lot of Enya in that respect, but with the fuzz and distortion of early Jesus and Mary Chain mixed in for good measure. The whole album has a very understated production, but that suits the music perfectly - this is a headphones listen if there ever was one. Try out ‘Chalk,’ ‘Vale,’ ‘In A Dream’ and ‘Backwards.’
