136. TEN THOUSAND ROSES by Dori Freeman
Dori Freeman’s debut album (previously covered here) was one of my favorite records of 2016. Now it’s 2021 and she’s back with her fourth. Self-described as “electric, lo-fi, grunge-country,” it’s quite the departure from her previous material. Just comparing the look on her face on the two album covers speaks volumes. Get ready for a bigger sound from a bigger band, thoughtful lyrics and confident vocals. The standouts for me include, ‘The Storm,’ ‘Nobody Nothing,’ and ‘I Wanted To’ (I especially love what she does with her voice on the chorus while the band jams in the background).
