213. SOUVENIRS by Pale Blue Eyes
When the name of your band is the same as an excellent song by The Velvet Underground, you've already got big shoes to fill. And fill they do with this just released 2022 debut from the English trio. If you're a fan of bands like Joy Division, New Order, OMD and...well, you get the gist, you're in for a treat. Over just a couple days of listening, I already know this record will be on my top ten list for 2022. Obviously by name dropping some of those bands, you know that this is a synth and bass heavy album. Add on top of that motorik guitar riffs and extended jams and I'm sure you'll be spinning this record again and again.
As for song selection, you can't go wrong with the last two-thirds or so of the record (actually, you can't go wrong with any of it). But since I have to pick a track for you to start with, I'd say go with 'Star Vehicle.' That's the album stand-out in my mind. Next, try 'Sing It Like We Used To' on for size, followed by 'Champagne' and 'Honeybear.'
