127. SOBERISH by Liz Phair
I wrote about Liz Phair’s third album here and now I want to tell you about this 2021 record, her seventh. Writing from a more mature viewpoint that 50+ years of living life will bring, this is not going to be a rehash of Exile in Guyville (her seminal debut album), nor would one want it to be. Rather, the themes explored here include actual divorce (not contemplated like in the excellent ‘Divorce Song’ from Exile), sobriety, friendship and the like. Some of my favorites include album opener ‘Spanish Doors,’ ‘In There’ and ‘Soul Sucker.’
