35. RED (Taylor's Version) by Taylor Swift
With all the hoopla surrounding the surprise drop of Taylor Swift’s record, ‘folklore,’ I thought it would be nice to take a step back and focus on ‘Red’ - her 2012 album that many consider the transition from “country” Taylor to the more “pop” oriented Taylor. Listening to this album, one can’t help but be reminded of Shania Twain’s 1997 offering, ‘Come On Over,’ which accomplished much of the same, just about 15 years earlier. On ‘Red’ I tend to gravitate toward the slower songs, so that would include ‘All Too Well’ and ‘I Almost Do’ (you can hear the yearning in her voice in the chorus). However, ‘State of Grace’ is a great, rhythmic album opener and ‘22’ has to be one of the best produced pop songs I’ve heard - listen to that one loud.
