77. ONE ESKIMO (self-titled)
I believe I had mentioned before how it’s so refreshing to come across a musician who sings with his/her native accent intact, rather than Americanizing the vocals. This is what Kristian Leontiou, lead singer of UK-based indie band One eskimO, does on their 2009 record. Kind of atmospheric in nature, this album is subtle in the way that it will get its hooks into you. Try listening to ‘Simple Day’ just once - you can’t - it’s such great storytelling in the form of a song that you’ll want to hear that story again and again. Continue with ‘Kandi’ (which, incidentally, samples the song ‘He Called Me Baby’ by Candi Staton), ‘Astronauts’ and ‘Amazing’ and you’ll leave with a smile on your face.
