62. MINT by Alice Merton
This record by Canadian-German-British pop singer Alice Merton came out in 2019. The album is laced with hints of 80’s pop and rock with every song being a potential ear worm. Merton sounds best when she sings in her natural, deep register (she’s been compared to Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine). Interestingly, she gained popularity first in Germany and then the rest of Europe with the release of a few singles and an EP before gaining notice and momentum in the US. If you’re into some percussive beats, check out this record, particularly ‘No Roots,’ ‘Lash Out’ and album closer ‘Why So Serious.’
