20. LOVE / IDLENESS by Wardell
This 2015 record by the sibling duo known as Wardell is probably one of my favorite discoveries of the past 5 years - and it all started out when iTunes offered their track, ‘Love / Idleness,’ as the free single of the week (remember those?). I immediately fell for lead singer Sasha Spielberg’s voice and the sparse guitar lines of her brother Theo (by the way, yeah, that Spielberg). The rest of the album is more of the same which, in my book, is a good thing. While all of the songs really serve as a showcase for Sasha’s voice, the a cappella intro to ‘Virginia, Wait’ along with the sparse arrangement is well worth a listen with a good pair of headphones. Other favorites of mine include ‘Act My Age’ and ‘Funny Thing.’
