71. JUDY SUCKS A LEMON FOR BREAKFAST by Cornershop
Cornershop is a band out of the UK known for their fusion of Indian elements (particularly the sitar) with indie rock, pop and electronic music. They started out in the mid-90’s. This, their fifth album, was released in 2009. As mentioned, they have a knack for making a melting pot of their music and throwing in catchy hooks and witty lyrics. I really like how they incorporate the sitar in what are otherwise straight up rock/pop songs. This record is chock full of great examples, including opener ‘Who Fingered Rock’n’Roll,’ ‘Soul School’ and ‘The Roll of Characteristics (Of History in the Making).’ They also do a nice cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘The Mighty Quinn.’
