43. INTRODUCTION, PRESENCE by Nation of Language
2020 brings us this debut record by New York-based new wave revivalists Nation of Language. Their influences include many of the new wave and synth pop bands of the 80’s, including OMD, New Order, Joy Division, Human League, etc. With the deep vocals, driving bass and punchy synth, this trio brings all the best of new wave to a modern audience. Album opener ‘Tournament’ sets the mood which then continues with ‘Rush & Fever’ and so on. Close your eyes when ‘On Division St’ starts and you’ll swear that this is some alternate version of New Order’s ‘Bizarre Love Triangle.’ The record ends on a strong note with ‘The Wall & I.’
