67. INCIDENTAL MUSIC by W.H. Lung
This 2019 debut album by Manchester, UK trio W.H. Lung (named after a Chinese supermarket) is worth a listen, even if it only consisted of the opening, 10 minute tour de force, ‘Simpatico People.’ But, there’s so much more. Synth-pop electronica a la LCD Soundsystem, this record will hypnotize you and leave you postictal for a while after. Of course the tracks are synthesizer heavy but there’s also shimmering guitars which, combined with the vocals, gives the entire album it’s driving momentum (motorik). My big three also happen to be the three longest songs on the record: the previously mentioned ‘Simpatico People,’ ‘Inspiration!’ and ‘Nothing Is.’
