224. GULP! by Sports Team
This 2022 sophomore effort from the UK's indie rock darlings Sports Team does more for me than their debut. I think there's more maturity and control in their writing and playing and, overall, less chaos than the first record. Additionally, the one thing that's guaranteed to pique my interest when listening to new music is when a song somehow reminds me of something I've heard before, but not really. It's a feeling that's hard to describe - a sort of deja vu that's more vu than deja. Anyway, that's what happened with a couple tracks on this record and, so, I just had to listen to the rest. And, I'm glad I did.
The songs I've added to the Daily Records playlists include opener 'The Game' (vis-a-vis The Sex Pistols' 'God Save The Queen'), 'R Entertainment,' mantra-like 'Dig!,' 'Cool It Kid' (which immediately reminded me of the riff in Liz Phair's 'Go West') and 'The Drop.'
