272. FOREVER by Charly Bliss
Previously covered back in 2020 American indie pop / power pop band Charly Bliss are back with an all new record for 2024. Between their previous and current albums, lead singer Eva Hendricks moved to Australia, her bandmate brother had kids and the band embraced an almost full throated pop direction with their music - almost. There are still some hints of their past alt-rock leanings but the majority of this record is 'shiny happy pop-le'.
I'm a fan of a properly sequenced album in terms of starting out strong - as I've probably mentioned before the first track on an album is most people's introduction to that album and placing a really good song first goes a long way in getting the listener to continue listening. That's why I'm really glad 'Tragic' is the album opener. Hearing this made me want to listen to the rest of the album and it's a good thing (for you and me both) that I did. Tracks 3 and 2, 'Back There Now' and 'Calling You Out,' respectively, are must listens as are 'I Don't Know Anything' and 'In Your Bed.'
