44. CAGE THE ELEPHANT (self-titled)
Kentucky’s Cage the Elephant announce themselves within the first few notes of their 2008/2009 debut record and then keep their foot on the gas for the next 40 minutes or so. Alternatively described as alt rock, punk blues and funk, lead singer Matt Shultz and his brother, rhythm guitarist Brad Shultz, form the core of the band. With an electric live show, this band (and this album) has the chops and the hooks to take you on a wild ride. Get strapped in because the first three tracks start things out with a bang. Other great songs include, ‘Back Against the Wall,’ ‘Judas’ and ‘Back Stabbin’ Betty.’
