126. BLUE WEEKEND by Wolf Alice

Previously covered here, British indie/alternative band Wolf Alice are back in 2021 with their third record. Quickly garnering 5 star reviews from the critical press, Blue Weekend has already been hailed as the foursome’s best album yet. Ranging from grunge to piano ballads and everything in between, the 11 tracks highlight the band’s virtuosity and variability (not to mention producer Markus Dravs’ magic touch). To get a taste of lead singer and guitarist Ellie Rowsell’s tenderness start off with the aforementioned piano ballad, ‘The Last Man on Earth.’ Then, for something completely different check out ‘Smile.’ The band has described the sound they were trying to get throughout the record as “cinematic,” going so far as to play demos over movie trailers to see if the tracks generated the right feelings.
