42. 28 DAYS IN THE VALLEY by Dorothy
I came across the hard rock/blues rock band Dorothy (fronted by lead singer Dorothy Martin) when they opened up for Greta Van Fleet several years ago. With her hard pounding vocals, Martin reminds me a lot of Ann Wilson from Heart. In fact, this whole 2018 record sounds like it could have been released in the 70’s, as if Dorothy were contemporaries of not just Heart, but Jefferson Airplane too. This is a classic rock record in every sense of the word. It’s not just Martin’s vocals that stand out - she has a very tight band supporting her. There are guitar hooks galore. If you’re just looking for a record to put on and rock to, you won’t be disappointed with this one. From album opener ‘Flawless’ continue on with ‘Who Do You Love’ and you’ll get an idea of what you’re in store for. ‘Philadelphia’ brings things down a notch towards the latter half of the record, but not to worry - ‘We Are STAARS’ will have you shaking again.
